Transfer campaign before Premier League debut

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 01:50 AM PDT

Hopefully, you read the last post about Boston squad analysis. Now you will get to know about its consequences. I changed Boston squad much before the Premier League. Squad revolution as I normally call it! There were 2 reasons for that:

- the squad was very weak for the PL

- Boston board gave $24M for transfers!

Season 8 expectations and budgets

Though the wage budget has been very bounded and certainly not enough to sign better players. Therefore I partially sacrificed the transfer budget increasing wages (how much - you will see in the post's end).

Players out

Players out, season 8

All sold players were either too old or lacking quality. Especially I want to single out guys who disappointed me in the last season: Iain Hume, Davie McLean, Stanton Lewis, Martyn Wooford.

Players in

Perhaps I spent a personal record time on the transfer campaign. 6-7 hours of players search, analysis, and scout reports… I made a decision to sign mostly experienced players who can help our team in a Premier League survival.

There were many different candidates. Some of them accepted my offer and rejected it soon. For instance, Lukas Podolski:

Podolski rejected Boston United

Here is the long list of Boston newcomers:

First of all I am glad because of lucky Aguirre loan. He's the forward who performed well during the last Championship season scoring 22 goals. Moreover, there will be a chance to buy him in the end for $5M:

I can buy Aguirre in future

Don't want to describe all signed players. Here come the list of top 10 Boston transfers before Premier League start:

1. Mario Balotelli (AML/AMR/FC). Top signing!

Contract of Mario Balotelli

The odious attacker has joined our team on free transfer! It was very difficult to sign the contract with him because of the longest negotiations I've ever had. He left Manchester City, he's joined Boston United….

Going to use Mario on the both inside forward positions. I understand his Teamwork and Work Rate are very low. Hope he will be able to score goals by himself with sudden strikes and dribbles starting from the left or right flank.

2. Marcelinho (DC). The most expensive transfer - $4.5M

Marcelinho in Football Manager 2011

Brazil U21 player. Real prospective! Marcelinho is already the best central defender in Boston United.

3. George Forsyth (GK)

George Forsyth in Football Manager 2011

I have already announced this transfer in my additional FM Crowd blog: New Boston goalie!

Definitely, Forsyth is the Premier League level goalkeeper .

4. Pedro Lima (AML/AMR)

Pedro Lima in Football Manager 2011

It was one of the best transfer campaign's moments when Manchester United agreed to accept $3M offer for this talented winger. Pedro Lima was considered the next Nani among the Red Devils! Surely he is not so quick as I expected but his Work Rate skill should help in Pace and Acceleration raising.

Moreover, Lima has already developed 5 preferred moves:

5. Rodrigo (STC)

Rodrigo became the Top Goalscorer

I was searching for a forward who can score goals often and stopped my look at Rodrigo. He made 23 goals in 32 matches of the second Spanish League playing for Albacete. Now he will compete with loaned Aguirre for the first squad place.

6. Christoph Leitgeb (MC)

Christoph Leitgeb in Football Manager 2011

Decent experienced central midfielder. Leitgeb's Passing and Creativity hint that he can be used with Advanced Playmaker role. He will add more depth to the squad.

7. Maxi Pereira (DR)

Another experienced player. Yes, he's speed is below average. But I am going to rotate Maxi with the other DR Jeffrey Altheer when a left midfielder of opponent's team won't be pacey.

8. Nauzet Aleman (AMR, MC)

And again - experienced player for Boston United. Nauzet Aleman can be used as a right winger and central midfielder with advanced playmaker role. I want to single out his technical level, Decisions, Determination, and Flair attributes.

9. Pichu Atienza (DC, DMC, MC)

Pichu Atienza… I have vivid recollections regarding this defender from my Football Manager 2008 story of Southampton

10. Michael Dawson (DC)

Slow but famous and very experiencedУлыбка He will be a substitution player.

Current wage budget and finances

Here is the financial information of Boston United in the end of August:

Balance is very negative at the moment, but I think it will grow due to Premier League matches.

Question for the readers

What's your opinion regarding the latest Boston transfers?
